
KIRSTIN E. WILLIAMS (Artistic Director) is the choreographer and producer of the all women modern dance company, STRONG CURRENT, which she founded in San Francisco in 1999. Then in 2004 Kirstin created another company, STRONG PULSE, which is a diverse hip hop and jazz group of 30 founded through my students at City College of San Francisco. Both groups contribute a portion of their proceeds to local social activism groups and protective services for women. Kirstin is committed to giving voice to all people and questioning societal and political views placed upon us, which continue to haunt us today globally and locally. Reflecting women’s issues, race, gender and arouse social consciousness with raw, stark, large group and compassionate choreographic visions is her passion. STRONG CURRENT & STRONG PULSE continues to carve out a unique identity in the dance community with a technically strong, dynamic, young, diversified, Hip Hop/Jazz & Modern dance group that pushes innovative artistic technique to adamantly confront political issues through a feminist lens. She aims for peace, liberation of all people, and change in our world through the fusion & celebration of hip hop, jazz, modern dance movement, art, spoken word & music.Ms. Williams obtained her MFA in dance from Mills College in Oakland, CA in May 1999. She received her BA in dance from San Diego State University in 1995. In August 1999 she moved to New York City to work with the Jennifer Muller Dance Company, teach at Dancespace and Broadway Dance Center, and premiere five of her works in several NYC venues. She has studied dance in New York with the David Parsons Company, Alvin Ailey School of Dance, Martha Graham School, Cunningham School, Limon Institute and Simonson jazz technique. Ms. Williams teaches modern, jazz, hip-hop, ballet, tap, yoga, pilates, cardio-dance, stretch, body sculpt, pole dance, water aerobics, & swim classes throughout Bay Area Sport Clubs & NYC. Currently Ms. Williams is teaching Beg. & Int. Hip-Hop, yoga, Modern, Beg. Ballet & Int. Jazz at City College of San Francisco and aerobics at University of San Francisco. Ms. Williams also has taught modern and jazz at San Francisco State University, the San Francisco Dance Center & USF. She has given master dance classes, lectures, demonstrations and performances at Palomar City College, San Diego State University, Mills College, San Francisco State University, and UC San Diego. In the Bay Area Ms. Williams has danced with Asian American Dance Performances, Ann Berman, Katherine Davis Dance, Chimene Pollard, Eclipse Dance Theater, San Jose Dance Theater & Anne Bluethenthal and Dancers.
